An IntroductionMy name is Stephanie Lucas, and I am an educator. I love what I do and look forward to inspiring minds each and every day!
I worked towards my bachelor's degree at Illinois State University from 2009-2013, double majoring in Mathematics Education and Theatre Education before choosing to take a moratorium from my schooling. At the present, I am attending Grand Canyon University, continuing to work toward my bachelor's degree in Theatre Education. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to teach. Learning has always been an adventure, an addiction. When peers began asking for help on their assignments, I felt the unequivocal joy that can only come from helping someone understand. I currently instruct Creative Drama courses through the City of Tempe, as well as a Young Actors Theatre in the summer. Teaching PhilosophyI strongly believe that every student is capable of learning. They may not see the potential in themselves, but I do everything I can to show them they only need a new mirror.
I hold every student to a high, yet attainable level of expectations, expectations meant to challenge them to challenge themselves. When I lead a class, academic success is never be measure by method of comparison against others; a student is only competing against who they were yesterday. It is my expectation that parents and guardians will take an active interest in their student's education, though I recognize that such an interest is not always given or possible to give. In return, students, parents, guardians, and supervisors can expect a number of things from me. Some of these include: timely responses to phone calls and/or e-mails, confidentiality in all matters, and frequent updates. Most importantly, I strive to make my classroom a safe, respectful, constructive, high confidence area of learning and growth for everyone. Every student, parent, guardian, etc. deserves to be treated with dignity. I believe that students often need a reason to be interested in topics, and students can expect that I will do my best to make every lesson relevant and interesting. I believe that every day is a new day, earning clean slates and do-overs for those who need it. Every day has the potential of being a good day The future of children and adolescents in entrusted to educators, and we owe it to them -- to the future -- to do everything in our power to ensure that they are getting as much from us as they can: not facts, but the ability to think, consider, question, care, respect, and so much more. |
